In the book dear Bruce Springsteen i read from pages 27-52 it is written in a diary told by Terry Blanchard.the whole reading section is written in his point of view.
In this reading section Terry Blanchard decides to get his hair dyed blond.Terry Blanchard starts to talk about girl friends and how everyone is into that kinda stuff except him.The next day when Terry is at school a girl comes up to him and says"i like your hair hang in there and you got guts."Later that day the girl Kristy phones Terry and asks Terry if he wanted to go out but Terry said he was busy that day.Two days later Terry phoned Kristy and talked for 7-8 minutes asking each other where they wanted to go out and which day and what time would be good.
This becomes a problem for them because they are both really busy on the weekend they wont to go out!!! That same day Terry's dad phoned to talk with Terry's mom and Terry could see that it went bad because Terry's mom hanged the phone up on Terry's dad.In the mean time terry passes all of his exams including math and now he has two months of summer vacation!!!
On Terry's free time during his summer vacation Terry hangs out with Sean at his house and they go to the special part of the lake to hang out.Later that day Terry got a letter and some money from his old man/dad. So did Amanda get some money from him and Terry's mom got 100 dollars.
So far there are many places Terry Blanchrd talks about in his letters. There is the beach, math class, all over his house and of course, his room; where he writes most of his letters. The other place he wrote part of his letter is in his math class. This section of reading takes place at the time of the end of the school year for Terry. I know this becasue of 2 things; 1, the date, and 2 he has the end of the year exams.
After Terry finishs school he goes to the beach because it is very hot. The setting plays a significant role in the book. The setting does influence the plot in a major way. An example of this is the beach. Terry goes to the beach because it is the end of the year. School is done, that is the time, and the beach, is the place; that is the setting and how it infuences the plot.
i will continue this post to my summary of my other post:
i will be basing my post on characters: the characters are drawn from Terry's house, the beach, and at Terry's school.
The authors attitude towards the characters is happy because Terry's family is happy in this section when Terry gets a 53 in his math exam and passes the rest of his exams.the characters are 3dimensional all of them except Mr.s lamb and Mr.s Mackinnon. Yes all of the characters have developed through the story except Mr.s Lamb and Mr.s Mackinnon. Character delineation is direct.
In this reading section many more things have happened that involve the characters and the theme.
Character wise, many things have happened in this novel. His “favourite” teacher, Jerkins, has noticed Terry. The teacher has noticed that Terry has died his hair a different colour…It’s almost blonde! Terry thinks that the new “do” suits him very well and is very proud of it. The author has done a very good job of writing in a “kid friendly” style, how a teenager might write a diary. It’s not very formal like an adults journal would be. Character delineation is direct.
The theme is very original, yet still familiar. Even though it’s just like an ordinary journal, the author has done a lot to make it come “alive”. The major theme in this section would be that Terry is trying to find a girlfriend. Even though he may not think he wants a girlfriend, we know by the way he is acting that he really does.
I disagree with Leor's comment about this section being very "happy". Even thought he passed his Math exam other things have happened as well. Terry is very upset when he tries to go out for dinner with Kristy because when he wants to do it, on Friday, Kristy is busy, and when she wants to do it on Saturday Terry can't because he's busy. Overall I don't really think that this was a very happy section.
i agree with Julia on her response to mine i know that when Terry wanted to go out with Kristy she was busy and when Kristy wanted to go with Terry Terry was busy but in general i think more of this section was more happy than sad!!! Leor WAsserman

My responce is to Leors blog. Leor, this is a summary. It is all true, but its just a summary of the reading section.
ReplyDeleteI agree with it all but Terry is a little into having a girlfriend. I agree that it's not as much, but he still wants one.
i agree with everything Oren said 1. that the letters take place at the beach, at home, and math class.
ReplyDelete2. that the reading section takes lace at the end of the year.
3. because of the points Oren stated i also agree with: 1. End of the school year exams.
2. The date in the book.
